Growing the Mainline Church
June 22-23, 2004, University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Iowa
In spite of all the bad news about the decline of the mainline church in America, the good news is that small, medium and large mainline churches are growing and thriving.
At the core of our first annual conference on Growing the Mainline Church is the belief that, pastors and lay leaders can led their congregations into
healthy, hopeful futures. This conference does not offer a new program or formula for growth, but explores the principles, practices, and possibilities that create a framework
for authentic growth.
We have assembled a resource team made up of pastors who have extensive experience in leading growing congregations of every size. They come together to offer this
event, not so much as "experts" who have the formula, but as fellow travelers in ministry who, in the good times and the tough times, have discovered principles and
practices that energize congregations and congregational leaders.
We invite you to join us for a time of hopeful discovery and renewal. Bring a team from your congregation. A post-conference online message board will be available for
continuing support and discussion as you lead your congregation in a growing ministry.
Early Registration [Through March, 2004] $110; Spouse (attending with pastor ) $60
$ 90 per person group rate for up to 5 persons (from same church or agency)
$ 75 per person group rate for 6 or more persons (from same church or agency)
You may register by phone. Call Joan Schmerbach at (563) 589-3691. Early registration is encouraged as we will need to limit attendance.

The Latin American Action Team 2004 Delegation to Plan Grande #2, Nicaragua July 15-25, 2004
The Covenant Partnership between members of the Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery and the community of Plan Grande #2 was established in 2000 following a Hurricane Mitch
reconstruction work-trip. Join us for our fifth consecutive summer delegation to Nicaragua!
What can I expect?
To learn a bit about life in a developing country by living in community among her people, and to put Christ's words-"whatever you've done unto the least of these,
you've done unto me"-into action
Do I need any special skills?
No, unless you consider flexibility a special skill! Translators are provided, and any work undertaken during the trip will involve something available for all ages and
skill levels.
What is the cost?
Based on previous years expenses, the 2004 trip should be in the ballpark of $1200 (not including souvenirs and miscellaneous expenses). Deposit of $275 to reserve
your slot will be non-refundable after May 1.
Interested?
