Framework for Congregational Development
We Believe:
Great things will happen
God Uses Ordinary People in achieve extraordinary things
God's Spirit is always moving
God gives us what we need
Congregational Transformation is possible
God resurrects
Serving is a blessing
Our Values:
Passion, Significance, Openness, Honesty, Plain-Spokenness, Experimentation, Joy, Collaboration, Appropriate NOs / Committed YESes, Dedication/Accountability,
Effectiveness, Modeling Teams, Learning
Our Assumptions
We are in the Transformation business
We don't fear the death of a congregation
Through discerment we will determine the level of involvement with a congregation
Congregational leadership is key to transformation
Resources support new directions
Our Norms
We give team meetings priority and are present whenever possible
We arrive on time and stay, if possible, until the meeting ends
We maintain confidentiality unless agreed otherwise
We normally conduct our meetings so that they will not exceed two hours, recognizing that some work will be done by individuals or smaller groups outside the regular
meetings. Once a year we meet for a retreat.
We normally meet on the first Tuesday of each month at noon at the presbytery office
We take responsibility for presenting Congregational Transformation possibilities to the presbytery at one meeting each year
By means of appropriate channels, as well as through the Mission Council, we will seek to learn the needs and wishes of those in the presbytery
We appoint Action Teams as needed; we will receive reports in writing from each Action Team at least two times per year; we will communicate our goals,
policies and other decisions to the Action Teams as appropriate
We proactively plan for workshops, speakers and consultants, resource guides and other materials and experiences which can be offered to churches or groups
within the presbytery
We accept or initiate other actions as interest within the presbytery suggests and as leaders can be found
We work closely with Action Teams, and will initiate other Action Teams as needed, providing for their training in their particular action area undeneath the
umbrella of the Beliefs, Values, and Assumptions for our work together. We understand that we work on behalf of the entire presbytery, not any particular group(s).
Meetings are open; persons with special concerns or interests may contact the moderator for docket time.
We base pariticiaption in the Ministry Team and Action Teams on both the gifts needed for the task(s) before us and the passion and willingness to develop gifts and
skills in congregational development
What are we?
Disciples/Apostles, Growing in Faith - Reaching Out, Defined by relationship to Jesus, not to the presbytery, willing individuals going in faith, responsible for development/transformation
What do we do?
Enable the journey of congregations in a brand new time, model passion for transformation, birth new congregations, help churches be glad to be part of the presbytery,
help focus on the unchurched, recognize the need to change -CALL, how to change
Who do we serve?
God, Jesus Christ, Geographic area, congregations of the presbytery, wider Presbyterian church and the whole Church, Communities, each other on the team, faith communities, and with
the Committee on Ministry
Why do we do it?
To fulfill the Great Commission, the same old is not working, new realities require collaboration, to support each other, to meet our own needs, to foster growth, it is a mandate
