Martin Luther King, Jr. Workshop “A Common word Between Us and You”
January 19, 2008
The following were suggestions of next steps that might be taken by those in attendance at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Workshop on building relationships between the Muslim and Christian community. The thrust of the dialog suggested that we had common ground in the areas of “loving God” and “loving neighbor”
Where Do We Go From Here?
Continue dialogue
Visit (respective) rural communities with a “road show” strengthening understanding
Stop “tolerating” and begin “loving”
Do things together to show love of neighbor (e.g. CROP walk to relieve world hunger)
Small groups of Muslim and Christian women
Bring in other faith groups
Bring dialogue into African American churches
Involve young people from an early age
More cultural exchanges
Lodge follow-up with Interfaith Partnership
Individuals start cultural exchanges
Cross-cultural reading exchanges
Joint worship experiences where appropriate
Begin with talking points for leaders
Muslims are not extremists / terrorists (urged by young people)
