I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, Do you not perceive it?  Isaiah 43:19

The Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy is committed to nurturing a culture of innovation and experimentation. We believe that innovation creates new directions for mission and ministry as we take an active risk of faith. When we take seriously God’s call to envision the new in the midst of the old, it is an opportunity to put our faith in the resurrection to test.

Our congregations are committed to God’s call to make a difference in the world. To reflect this commitment in our present contexts, we must continue to tap into our intuitive and prayerful capacities to transform God’s dream for/in us into a new reality. We must be willing to go forth boldly and embrace the new thing God is placing in our hearts and minds.

We know that it can be daunting to have a fresh new idea—to be unsure where to go or how to make that idea into a reality. Yet, we believe that each of our congregations have the capacity to do ministry and mission in new and innovative ways in 2020. We trust that embedded within these faith communities is a spark of creativity; a budding of bold new ways to be God’s witnesses in the world.

In light of this, the Congregational Church Development Team of the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy wants to invest in you and your ministries with hopes that together we will deepen your commitment to be a vibrant congregation.

Below are descriptions of the two grants available in 2020 for ministries that focus on innovation, imagination, and creativity. These grant applications are fillable and are simple to complete and return. If needed, please contact us with any questions and we will walk with you throughout the process. Staff can be reached at (314) 772-2395.  Or you can contact the Congregational Church Development Team Moderator, Rev. Liz Kanerva, at pastorlizkanerva@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Epiphany Grants – Up to $500

Are you feeling God nudging you to try something new? Perhaps you’ve had a spark of an idea, but hesitate to move forward with it for fear of failure. Sometimes, it is only through experimentation that we can we figure out whether a new idea is viable or not. The Epiphany Grant allows you to test on the ground some new idea or try out a new way of doing something old. This is a chance to put your ideas into action to help your congregation move forward in new and different ways.

While Epiphany Grants may be used to expand on an existing ministry, grants will favor new ministry proposals for congregations seeking to discern if this “new way” will bear fruit. Our hope is the grant allows the congregation to dip their toes into the waters, evaluate, and discern if this is the ministry God is calling them to pursue.

Innovation Grants – Up to $10,000

Has God given you a vision of how to move your ministry and church forward? Have you been called to put your faith on the line and to try something that seems risky—but creative—in partnership with your community?  Innovation can lead to transformation and thus by providing this grant, we affirm our commitment to our Reformed motto – “reformed and always reforming according to the Word of God and the call of the Spirit.”

The Innovation Grant seeks to fund creative endeavors, community initiatives, entrepreneurial ventures, and other original and innovative projects by providing financial support as you take the next step in either an existing ministry project or an Epiphany Grant project. The grant should have an outward-looking focus and must tie into the congregation’s mission and/or vision. Our question to you is: How will this next step of the ministry breathe new life into your ongoing work and how will it benefit your community as well as the congregation?
